Cara and I have known (and laughed with) Melissa through three gyms, and we were thrilled when she completed her StrongFirst certification in 2015 to move from student to instructor at Catalyst. She tells it like it is and knows her stuff…especially those get ups. If you’ve been lucky enough to take one of her classes, you know you can expect good music, solid instruction, and a feeling of accomplishment as you walk out the door. Look for her in the Saturday morning rotation!
How long have you been at Catalyst and what keeps you coming back?
I have been at Catalyst since day 1!! I keep coming back because of the awesome people
(members & trainers). Such a great group of people.
What’s your favorite strength move?
I love the Turkish Get Up. Love. It.
If you could magically gain one skill without working for it, what would it be?
I would love to be able to effortlessly whip up delightful meals!
How many places have you lived, and which one is your favorite?
I have lived in 3 states. My favorite place is here, the Iowa City area. If I could shorten winter to
about 6 weeks, it would be nearly perfect!! (Arizona would be my 2nd favorite!)
What really makes you angry?
Assholes. (aka. . . Mean and/or selfish people). And the school carline!!!!
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
I have had vegemite, which is a strange thing to want to eat. It’s a yeasty, pasty, salty
substance. I haven’t had anything terribly exotic.
What was your favorite class in school/college?
I absolutely cannot tell you the actual name, but I found the class about human behavior quite
What’s the best costume you’ve ever worn?
Oh geez! I really don’t like dressing in costumes! I suppose my best was when I went as a
Name one thing on your bucket list.
My bucket list is loaded with places I want to visit. I really hope to be able to take a family trip to
Europe in the next few years.
If you could live one day over again, which one would you pick?
Huh. I have no idea. Some of my happiest days were my wedding, birth of my children, family
vacations. But, I really don’t care to relive them! (Especially the labor & delivery!) I’m choosing to
view this as a positive–it means I am enjoying the moment & not living in the past, right????
