Meet Emy

Full disclosure: I’ve been an Emy Williams fan since I watched her coach the first Solon XC meet I attended years ago (because what’s not to love about a XC coach?!). And later she survived (and even inspired) my hard-to-please middle child as her 3rd grade teacher. That’s enough to win me over for life! When she joined the Catalyst crew a few summers ago, we found out how fun it is to coach the coach. She works hard, brings her A game, inspires (although not without complaining…you can’t be too positive in the early morning if you still want people to like you), and has a squat most of us would die for.  And while that 24k bell (yes, that’s 53 lbs she’s smiling about) is hiding them in this picture, she has some serious guns to show for that hard work. Read on to find out more about her favorite move (no surprise here), what makes her angry, and her best worst gift!

How long have you been at Catalyst and what keeps you coming back?

I have been a member for two and a half years.  I love the feeling after I workout. I am not so good at self motivating myself to get up and workout. So having to answer to all the teachers and other members in class about why I wasn’t there helps get me out of my bed in the morning!

IMG_4957What’s your favorite strength move?

I have learned to like the squat!

Favorite cartoon?

I have always loved Micky Mouse! My bedroom growing up was covered in Micky.

If you could go back in time to change one thing, what would it be?

I can’t think of anything I would change. All things good and bad have helped shape who I am today.

What really makes you angry?

I hate when I see someone disrespect someone. That is why I am always talking to my own kids and my 3rd graders about being respectful.

What is your favorite family holiday tradition?

I love being able to spend time with family.

What’s something you are passionate about?

I am passionate about helping my students that I teach and and runners I coach all see how amazing they are, to believe in themselves, and be the best they can be.

If you could magically gain one skill/accomplishment without working for it, what would it be?

I would love to be more organized.

What is the worst gift you’ve ever received?

With a husband who is a wrestling coach Christmas and Valentines Day shopping is usually something that he doesn’t have time for. So he is always getting his ideas from the ESPN radio show or other wrestling coaches. One year a bunch of the coaches thought it would be a good idea to send all of their wives and girlfriends a Barbershop Quartet. So as I was teaching 4th grade in walk the Barbershop Quartet and they start to sing to me. My 4th graders and the rest of the staff (who were watching outside my door) thought it was hilarious.
