Not long after Roze Murphy became a kettlebell aficionado, her arm candy, Craig, gave bells a try. He’s been an institution at Catalyst since day one, taking breaks here and there for surgery and injury rehab (or maybe just a break from the harassment). Few people take (or dish out) more ribbing at Catalyst than Craig Murphy, and with kettlebell moves like the snatch and jerk and “ball work” in Restore, his quick wit often ends up in the gutter (where Steph permanently resides). My favorite Craig moment was the year he competed in our very first Tactical Strength Challenge (a competition that combines barbell deadlift, pull ups, and kettlebell snatches). Undeterred by an injured right shoulder, he cranked out an impressive 100+ snatches on his left side alone in five minutes. His hard-wor
king, fun-loving personality improves the entertainment value of any class. Read on to find out more riveting facts about Craig: his first car, most valuable life lesson, and, drumroll…his favorite Catalyst instructor.
How long have you been at Catalyst and what keeps you coming back?
I have been with Catalyst since the first day it opened and have been coming back ever since. Initially when my wife started with Steph I watched the workouts and saw the results and how excited she was to be doing this, so that got me thinking I had better start right away or I would be losing our arm wrestling competition at home. Besides what boy doesn’t like throwing bells around. The fantastic workouts that Steph and Cara put together with building strength and endurance are second to none.
